Partnering with GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, Expert Roofing donated a brand-new roof to the Willamette Valley Men’s Campus of Adult & Teen Challenge, a residential recovery program in Shedd, Oregon. For more than 65 years, Adult & Teen Challenge has provided individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction a lifeline to recovery. The program boasts an impressive five-year success rate of 86% for graduates, a testament to its holistic approach to healing and rebuilding lives. However, like many nonprofits, Adult & Teen Challenge operates on tight budgets, prioritizing direct services over capital improvements.

One such need was the gym roof at their Shedd campus—a building that had weathered Oregon’s relentless rain for years without proper protection. Replacing the roof was a daunting task that seemed out of reach, despite multiple contractor bids. “We had prayed for this for over a decade,” said Troy and Krista Cunningham, members of the executive leadership team at Adult & Teen Challenge. “Each time, the cost felt insurmountable for our ministry.”

That is, until Expert Roofing Services stepped in.

Jim and Amber Renfro, along with their son Jamie, production manager at Expert Roofing, first encountered the project during a visit to the Shedd campus. It wasn’t just the building’s condition that caught their attention—it was the mission behind the facility. The Renfro’s have a deeply personal connection to Adult & Teen Challenge. Their eldest son, Brandon, participated in the program, finding purpose and healing before tragically passing away due to addiction.

“Addiction affects not just individuals but entire families and communities,” shared Jim Renfro. “For us, this project was more than just fixing a roof—it was honoring our son and the work this program does to bring hope and transformation to others.”

That commitment drove the family to replace the gym roof, a critical space where residents gather for physical activity and personal growth. Expert Roofing Services donated all labor for the installation, while GAF, through its Community Matters initiative, supplied the high-quality roofing materials. Additional support came from ABC Supply, ensuring the project came together seamlessly.

The gift has not gone unnoticed by Adult & Teen Challenge leaders. “Words can’t express our gratitude,” said Troy Cunningham. “For the first time in 15 years, we have a building that doesn’t leak. This roof is a visible reminder to the men in our program that there are people in the community who believe in them and want them to succeed.”
