Movers and Shakers: 20 Under 40
article by Liz Cawood | President, CAWOOD
Every year I look forward to one event: 20 under 40. It’s inspiring. It’s fun. It’s renewing. As bright, energetic, compassionate people are recognized, their families, friends and colleagues share in the joy of the evening.
Each awardee speaks briefly, and their messages underscore why they were selected. And I hear from people who are leaders today and have the potential to do even more. As I’ve watched alumni move forward in their careers and life, that’s exactly what they do. They make our community better every day.
Come join us at this year’s event, Thursday, June 8, at The Graduate. It follows the Young Professionals Summit with a reception at 4:30 and the awards at 5:30. Prepare to be awed and energized. Registration is now open.
One constant through the past 14 years is Ralph Parshall’s support for the event and belief in recognizing people who will impact our community’s future. His positive, upbeat attitude is the driving force behind the 20 under 40 awards.
As the general manager of Mercedes-Benz of Eugene, Ralph heard other dealers talk about community events that honored rising stars under the age of 40. He thought it was time to bring the concept to the Eugene/Springfield metro area.
2018 was the first year. Since then, some 280 young community leaders (including this year’s class) were recognized. Winners show excellence in their careers, put a priority on community service and want to make their community the best it can be.
In addition to Ralph, this year’s judges include Denise Thomas, CEO of Let’s Move Fitness and Eugene Chamber board member and three 20 under 40 alumni: Mario Conte, managing partner of Hershner Hunter; Sarah Means, Semiconductor Manager for Office of Governor Tina Kotek; and Joel Ioba, founding executive director, Oregon Just Transition Alliance.
Hope to see you there!
